Concepts for Project White Calf: Mi’kmaq Legends

Posted to Art by Colleen on May 28th, 2009

Concept artist Matt Goodmanson has been busy breathing life into concepts for Silverback’s most dramatic game to date, Project White Calf.  The illustrations depict some of the pivotal pieces of action from the Mi’kmaq version: (1)  boss battle between the game’s legendary hero Glooscap and a demonic frog-monster; (2) a brutal inter-tribal battle for prized hunting territory; (3) an epic journey across the ocean by canoe; and (4) a desperate hunt for food as winter encroaches.

Plans are in the works to develop subsequent titles for Cree, Innu, Algonquin, Ojibwa, and Sioux. Looking forward to seeing more of the PWC art take shape.

Latest Game to Take Root: Gem Troll

Posted to Art by Colleen on May 26th, 2009

Gem Troll is our latest nugget of imagination featuring a creaky old gem troller by the name of Frank Forrestroll (named, I should add, after the newest  addition to Silverback’s talented art department, artist Frank Forrestall).

Silverback founder Willie Stevenson met Frank at the 2009 Game Developers Conference, when he went to investigate the suspicious smell of burning foam core outside his booth. There he stumbled upon Frank ‘s impromptu creation of a massive Concept Art Sculpture made of recycled foam core he had cut up and melted together with a lighter.  Frank’s impressive fantasy style made him an ideal fit for conceptualizing Gem Troll. Check out these early character concepts:

So about this gem troll… word has it he’s a hairy beast of a thing that lurks in the woody shadows, using delicious candy-bright gemstones to lure innocent sprinks into the forest deep.
